Are the summers holidays looming and you have no idea how you’re ever going to fit in a fitness regime with children to take care of for a few months? If you don’t want to pack them off to summer camp, consider some activities that you can involve the children in too. Not only will you keep boredom at bay but you’ll also keep yourself fit.
Swimming
A great family exercise whether your children are 0 or 18 years old. Excellent for giving your whole cardiovascular system a workout whilst toning muscle strength and you don’t just have to do laps. Splashing with the children, swimming with one of them on your back, playing water volley ball or even pushing a toddler along on a life raft are all excellent ways to stay in shape.
Football
All children love football with their family, even if they’re not great on a pitch at school. Take the competitive edge out of it, have a parent either side and you’ll be enjoying some healthy family fun.
Walking
Children may disappear when you mention the idea of going for a walk, but there are so many tools to help get them interested. Let the children do the map reading or make a list of objects they must find along the way.
Cycling
If your child can’t ride a bike, why not teach them? If they are too young to pedal invest in a seat for your own bike to carry them around with. Most children are adrenalin junkies even from an early age. You may not have your usual carefree quiet bike ride but you’ll have a workout and the children will enjoy the fresh air.
Roller-skating
Do you think you’re too old for roller-skating? Think again, you’re never too old to roller skate or roller blade, and your children will respect you even more for trying. Who knows you may just enjoy it and before you know it you’ll wonder how you ever got anywhere without wheels!
There’s always the usual for the more sporty children too, baseball, basketball, tennis and hockey are all great fun to play at the park.
